Patent Title Method of inhibiting influenza infection with antiviral peptides
Comment The antiviral peptide showS antiviral activity against a wide range of enveloped and non-enveloped viruses. Examples of enveloped viruses include, but are not limited to, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), vesicular stomatitis virus (VSV), herpes simplex viruses (HSV-1 and HSV-2), and other herpes viruses, for example, varicella-zoster virus (VZV), EBV, equine herpes virus (EHV), influenza virus and human cytomegalovirus (HCMV). Examples of non-enveloped viruses include, but are not limited to, papilloma virus (PV) and adenoviruses (AV).The peptide inhibits HSV-1 by blocking entry(IC50=11 μm) and antifree virus activity(IC50=4.5 μm).
Abstract This invention relates to peptides having antiviral properties. The antiviral peptides comprise membrane transiting peptides, and active fragments and derivatives of such peptides. The antiviral peptides exhibit activity against a broad spectrum of viruses, including enveloped and non-enveloped viruses, and are used in pharmaceutical compositions to prevent and/or treat viral infections.
